Acne Medication

Acne is a skin inflammation that can be caused by some factors like contact with an oily substance, use of certain acne medication, steroid on the contraceptive pill, and the secretion of androgens. Today, more than 90 percent of the worlds acne patients respond to acne medication, although some of the treatments took several days, months, and even years to complete.

The acne medication can be classified into herbal, homeopathic and traditional. Speaking of the herbal acne medications, it is very interesting to know that herbs like lavender, chamomile, bergamot, juniper, burdock root, and dandelion root are powerful fighters of acne. These herbal acne medications are noted to lessen toxicity and enhance the overall condition of the skin. There are also the Echinacea and poke root which are often employed for their anti-inflammatory qualities.

In terms of the homeopathic acne medications, you should know that for acne patients with pustules and blind boils on the face, neck and back, the Kali brom may be of great help. Aside from this, experts suggest taking selenium internally since this homeopathic acne medication is often used for the victims of acne with oily skin, pustules and blackheads. There is also the hepar sulph, a homeopathic acne medication commonly applied for acne patients who suffer from severe pustules typically noted as painful and filled with yellow pus.

Furthermore, there are some nonprescription and prescription acne medications today that can be of great help. However, a number of these acne medications are not really recommended for they can be toxic to the skin for over a period of time. You should know that one of the nonprescription acne medications that are not highly recommended for use is the benzoyl peroxide. As you may know, benzoyl peroxide is an exfoliant, thus can be used to remove dead skin cells from the skins shell. It is commonly used as an acne medication knowing that it helps to prevent the development of new blotches and clear up ones that are already present. However, certain findings have shown that this nonprescription acne medication can cause dryness, redness, and irritation to the skin, making it a powerful tool for other skin disorders.

Today, the tetracycline is most popular conventional acne medication. It is an antibiotic that may be applied alone or in combination with benzoyl peroxide. However, just like benzoyl peroxide, this too is not recommended for use due to some risky side effects. It is noted that there are some contraindications for this acne medication. For instance, food, antacids, iron supplements and milk can interfere with the absorption of this antibiotic. And, this acne medication can kill the good bacteria in your bowel and can cause your teeth to turn gray.
